#MyMindOurStory is a mental health awareness campaign. Here we share our stories, our triumphs, our struggles, and our truths about mental health.

According to the National Alliance of Mental Illness, 1 in 5 adults in America experienced some form of mental illness in 2018. Making up 47.6 million people. (1)

So if mental illness is so common, why is it still stigmatized? It is often hard for many to talk about it for fear of judgment or being misunderstood. The silent struggle making so many feel alone.

Mental health awareness helps share the truth of what mental illness really is, reducing the stigma and bringing us together.

When we share our stories, we not only open the door to normalizing mental health but we help others who may be experiencing darkness feel connected.

To kick off the campaign, I asked over 2,000 people on the chill chief Instagram a few questions about experiencing anxiety. Here’s what they had to say.

How do you feel after a flare-up of anxiety?

“Guilt, shame and worry.”

“Sadness.”

“So tired and often my head and back are aching from all the tension”

“Fearful”

“Especially if I show it externally, there’s a sense of shame and guilt…continuing the cycle.”

“Sad, guilty and agitated.”

What does the voice of anxiety tell you?

“I’m not enough.”

“I’m a failure”

“You’re talking too much.”

“That I will feel this anxious forever”

“That I will never recover and things will only get worse.”

“That I am being annoying and need to cool it.”
